UPDATE: Cigna Strikes Again: Mod 25

Hey there. A few months ago I sent a Tuesday Tip about Cigna’s Modifier 25 policy which would have required submission of documentation for each ENM with a minor procedure 99212 to 99215.
As most of you know, two days before the policy was to go into effect, which would have been May 25 (2023), Cigna decided to delay that policy. (Hooray!) And while this would have been a tremendous administrative burden on clinics, they didn’t choose to pull this policy out of thin air on a whim.
As coders and administrators, we have a professional and administrative responsibility to use Modifier 25 compliantly.
So I’ve provided two resources today: links to both Cigna’s reimbursement policy on Modifier 25, also the AMA’s guidance for properly using Modifier 25.
